Mission Blogging Pt IV

Latest update from Jake in Mexico:

This morning at the construction site we were visited by a woman who lives in Century 21. She needed a ride to the general hospital because her little daughter was sick. We drove by her "house", and I´m tempted to use double quotes on that, to pick her up. We threw together some pesos for her hospital visit and medication. The poor little girl couldn´t even open her eyes. We dropped her off and went on our way.

Later in the day, during work, I was asked to go make some visits on behalf of the church we were building and, of course, I went. We went to the house of the little girl to check on her. She was asleep in bed and moaning. She had all but one of the medicines she needed to get her better. We talked to the mother a little bit and found out her 10 year old son had been going to a bible study done by the church we were there with. He goes every Monday and Wednesday without fail. The mother decided to go check this thing out to find out what her son was so interested in. When the mother arrived at the house for the bible study, she was surprised to find out that it was a Bible study for the women of the village. That is how hungry these little kids are for some hope.

While we were there talking to the mother the father came home from work. We prayed for the little girl as she slept. We talked with her parents awhile too. They both asked Christ to forgive their sins and to come into their hearts. My day could not have been better! And we still have two more days!!!

Part I; Part II; Part III

Re:the missions update from Jake in Mexico. I have spent time each year for the past 4 years at the site where he is working this week. He does not exaggerate the condition of the houses, community, or the people. I can identify two of the girls in his photo from yesterday. I have their photo in my den, and my wife and I pray for them everyday. The oldest is Fannie and the youngest is her little sister, Ylianna. Their story is full of deprivation, violence, and neglect. When people ask why I spend my time and money on a place like this, I tell them that I do it so children like these two girls can one day read their own names and can have their children by choice, not violence. Many people are working at this mission site to make a difference. Everybody can do something. All can pray, some can go, and some can pay so others can go make a difference in this area of our world.

Thanks for leaving the comment Dennis. You will be happy to know that Fannie was wearing her new clothes today riding her new bike. She was so eager to help us as we worked. She touched everyone´s hearts.
