New Camera
Well, I received my new camera via UPS today. It's a Casio Exilim EX-Z55. I had borrowed an EX-Z40 from a friend last year when I went to Las Vegas. In fact, I just recently uploaded a few pictures from that trip to my photography page, MainFocus.com. Be sure to check them out.
The best thing about the Exilim series of cameras is the size. I can drop it in my pocket, and carry it anywhere I want. Even with the small size, it had an impressive 2" LCD screen, and weighing in with 4 megapixels, you can't go wrong.
This picture was taken with the EX-Z40 in Red Rock Canyon near Vegas:
With the EX-Z55, the size remains the same, but the 55 model has an even larger 2.5" LCD screen. And...of course...it is also a tiny 5 megapixel powerhouse.
This is the first picture I took with the camera today:
Maybe I can get one of these eventually. My Minolta 35mm SLR has served me well, but it's time to move on.
Either way, look for more pictures coming to the blog with the addition of my new toy. And yes, I will be taking this camera with me on my mission trip to Moldova...and hopefully will be photoblogging from there.

A few more examples in macro mode...of a few things lying around the house...
More for Mr. Roboto (see comments):
Meet my friend that sits in the corner. His name is Julius.
Lights on...not the best lighting, but ok...comparative to On the Rocks:
Lights off, no flash...comparative to the darker corners of Virago or Gravity:
Lights off, flash:
What you see above is pretty much exactly the same lighting I saw with the naked eye, and you may get the same results with most cameras. Also, the solid, light colored background probably doesn't help with the flash as it tends to white-wash a bit. Maybe I'll get a chance to try it out on the 23rd in a "live situation."
Again, the best thing (in my opinion) about this camera is the size. Compared to other cameras this size, you won't find anything better.
Be sure to read Steve's Digi-Cam review on this camera here.

how well does the new camera take pictures at night or in reduced light settings? The Minolta Dimage Xt is what I have, but it's useless in no flash or low light situations.

I didn't use a flash in any of the Vegas shots. There are at least a couple that are low-light (however, the focus is on something bright).
I'll see if I can provide some examples. Maybe I'll have a chance on the 23rd.
