For the Kids
Remember...it's for the kids.
On Monday, Metro Schools director Dr. Pedro Garcia unveiled his proposed budget for next year. It would boost funding by nearly 10 percent. But to get it, taxpayers may have to pay more taxes. On Tuesday, News 2 caught up with Mayor Bill Purcell for his reaction.
"I'm sure that my personal reaction was like anyone else's - that it's a big, big number," said Mayor Purcell. "But what I have trained myself to do and what I'd ask everyone else to do is to step back and take the numbers apart, look carefully at them and be sure we know what's in there before we judge it. That's what the board's going to do, that's what I'm gonna do, and that's what I'd suggest Nashvillians do."
By the way...did you know that Davidson County has the highest property tax rate in middle Tennessee? (FYI...Tennessee's very own left coast, Memphis, has the distinction of having the highest in the state)
