We thought it would be nice
Can someone tell me how Congress giving a small, suburban municipality in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to build a small park has anything to do with anything that Congress should be spending money on?
The word that the municipality won't soon get any of the $300,000 it had applied for came as unhappy news for officials.
Monroeville had planned to make a parcel next to Park Diner, between Route 22 and Northern Pike, into a small park with benches, tables and landscaping.
"We thought a little park with those features would be nice," said Marshall Bond, municipal manager.
Now that plan may have to wait until Congress passes a budget.
Now, take that small $300,000 and multiply it by how many little towns around the country may get earmarks like this to build nice little parks or some other nonsense. It starts to add up. It starts to add up to a lot of money going to things that Congress has no business spending money on.
But hey...they thought it would be nice. Good for them.
