Vacation - iPhone Activation Woes
I'm on vacation this week down on the Gulf Coast in Florida. It's a nice little spot between the tourist traps of Destin and Panama City (places I'd prefer to avoid anyway).
The iPhone is finally activated. After 38 hours, I was able to use it. AT&T botched my transition big time. When I went through the initial activation process, it disabled my old phone almost immediately. Hence, I was without a phone for the entire trip down to Florida. I had many discussions with AT&T support. I even asked specific questions...such as, "is there any feature on my account that would conflict with the iPhone plan?" I had read from several other blogs that they had similar problems because of this. After the 24 hour mark, they actually figured out that I did have a feature that conflicted with the iPhone plan. All of the other representatives whom I had talked to previously apparently didn't realize this...even though I ASKED THEM THIS SPECIFICALLY. They just kept saying..."wait 24 hours and it should work."
At the 36 hour mark, I had enough (well...I had already had enough). I finally got to someone who knew what they were doing. They apparently had to activate my plan manually. I'm not sure why, but that's what fixed it. I'll be writing AT&T and recommending this person for a raise.
Having said all that...the iPhone is great. It's all I thought it would be and more. I may give a further review later. As I said...I'm on vacation.
In the meantime, here's a picture of a family on their front porch who I came across in southern Alabama on the way to Florida.

I anxiously await a further review. I'm more interested in how practical it is to use- making calls, voicemails, carrying it (i like to drop my phone in my pocket), call quality, stuff like that. I have gone to the AT&T store to play with one but it's not the same as carrying it around everyday and using it.
