Scott Peterson

Two words sum up my view on the entire Scott Peterson ordeal: Who cares?

Out of the thousands of murders a year, the national news media picks up on one or two and think that every American needs to have up-to-the-minute updates of every grueling detail. When you have Greta Van Susteren sitting in the court room using her Blackberry so that Fox News would have a quicker scoop on the verdict and the correspondents spend most of their time talking about using that Blackberry to get that scoop, then you know that it's gotten out of control.

It's all a bloody soap opera, and the news networks are competing over it.

I don't care.

Why not Scalia?

Ever since there has been talk about replacing Rehnquist as Chief Justice, I've wondered, why not replace him with Scalia? Scalia is probably the most Constitutionally minded Supreme Court Justice that we have.

Apparently the new Democrat Minority Leader in the Senate, Harry Reid, agrees:

...the Nevada Democrat said that he could support Thomas' fellow conservative, Justice Antonin Scalia, if he were nominated.

"I cannot dispute the fact, as I have said, that this is one smart guy," Reid said of Scalia. "And I disagree with many of the results that he arrives at, but his reasons for arriving at those results are very hard to dispute."

Citing a hunting trip Scalia took with Dick Cheney before hearing a case involving the commission the vice president set up to work on an energy bill, Reid said the justice has some ethics problems.

"So we have to get over this," he said.

Of course, all of this comes after bashing Justice Thomas as being "an embarassment to the Supreme Court."

I'm not sure about that, but I can say that Scalia would be the best choice and to have the Dem Minority Leader agree is huge. I think that an appointment of Thomas would be done for pure political reasons anyway.
